FORTY-FIRST FORTY DAY FAST
FOR THE TRUTH OF GOSPEL NONVIOLENCE
JULY 1-AUGUST 9
FAST FOOD, Thirty-Seventh Helping
The words of Jesus, “Those who want to save their life in this world will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it,” call us into a crisis of hope: will we choose to base our hopes on those means which will save our lives in this world—and so lose the life Jesus gives—or will we base all our hopes on the life Jesus offers, even when it means losing our lives in this world? This is a perilous choice.

“Nothing is better or more necessary than love.
God is pleased with nothing but love.
One act of pure love is more precious in the eyes of God
and of the soul, and more profitable to the Church,
than all the good works together,
though it may seem as nothing.”
– St. John of the Cross
