FORTY-FIRST FORTY DAY FAST
FOR THE TRUTH OF GOSPEL NONVIOLENCE
JULY 1-AUGUST 9
FAST FOOD, Twenty-First Helping
Jesus calls us to die to the inertia which makes us accept uncritically whatever is common practice in the Church instead of asking whether what is done is consistent with the teaching of Jesus in the Gospel. In particular, for us to be faithful to Christ when there is a question of challenging our society or its cultural assumptions, we have to look to the Gospel, and not just to what is common or even approved practice in the Church.

“Nothing is better or more necessary than love.
God is pleased with nothing but love.
One act of pure love is more precious in the eyes of God
and of the soul, and more profitable to the Church,
than all the good works together,
though it may seem as nothing.”
– St. John of the Cross
