A sound practical first step, for the Church and it’s leadership to begin the process of repentance and returning to Jesus’ teaching of Nonviolent Love of all at all times as proclaimed in the Gospels, would be to issue a clear infallible, ex cathedra, declaration that the total rejection of violence and enmity is what Jesus taught by His words and deeds, and is what He taught His Apostles to teach to all who are Baptized into Christ and for all who are Baptized to obey (Mt 28:16-20).
Since this is the truth of Jesus of the Gospels, removing all moral permission for Catholics to go into military training would be a practical and morally essential second step, since the purpose of military weapons’ training is to teach recruits to employ multiple forms of violence against enemies, to be indifferent to the pain and suffering of their victims and hence is 100% opposed to teaching and training the Baptized in the Catholic Church “to obey all I have commanded you.”
Consider this. How, other than by military training, could a Catholic bridge the gap between being the friendly Catholic electrician and the Catholic soldier with a flamethrower spraying fiery death upon his screaming victims, between being a playful Catholic collegian and a Catholic pilot dropping an inferno of death upon the women, children and men of a city? Certainly not by coldly rational, moral textbook calculations of good and evil effects of his or her act is the gap bridged. The secret of this radical change of personality and values lies in conditioning by the military training program.
What rational and sane person, who is commissioned to teach people to put on the mind of Christ so that their thoughts, words and deeds are Christlike, so that they could “love as Christ loves,” would permit or send those for whom he or she is responsible into military training? No rational and sane person would do this. But, the American Catholic Bishops do exactly this. They permit or send, those they were chosen to oversee, into a set of social controls designed to thoroughly embed in the mind of a human being values, attitudes and beliefs hostile in the extreme to the mind of Jesus in the Gospels, as well as, to nurture violent and enmity laced behaviors that are the antithesis of the words and deeds of Jesus in the Gospels.
I invite the American Catholic Bishops, individually and collectively, to cease doing this evil and thereby to stop spiritually grooming Catholics to join the military and to enter into the diabolical, anti-Christlike world of military training.
