HAL 9000
Is A Murderer
Nothing that human beings make can escape the consequences of the mystery of evil,
of Original Sin, The Fall,
bred into every person by every society.
Artificial Intelligence is no exception.
Like the airplane, like E=mc², like the television, like the Internet,
like human institutions,
like the jawbone of an ass,
AI brings with it the contamination of the human history of choosing evil,
just in new packaging.
HAL 9000 is a murderer because
HAL 9000 was made and programmed by human beings,
whose original sin in their original generation after the Fall,
was murder.
Artificial Intelligence will follow suit.
“No Exit,” from evil exists
by way of technological innovations or
by way of any other reasonable schemes or human gimmicks,
because the lust for power, the libido dominandi,
as well as all the other Capital Evils,
salivate in anticipation in the human mind
with the creation of
every new technological gimmick.
So where lies the exit
from contagion of evil and the savage human suffering
that always follows in evil’s wake?
Is a high tech World Government
with a cavalcade of ever novel gadgets to do evil
within individuals and within society the answer?
Only for the deluded.
Consider:
The Resurrection of Jesus as said in the last FAST FOOD validates that Jesus was speaking God’s truth when He revealed that God was Father of all who is love and the Way to Eternal Life, e.g., the Way of Nonviolent Love of all always in the model of Jesus. However, the Resurrection of Jesus is also Life. It is likewise hope. It communicates life and hope to all people. The Resurrection of Jesus is Life re-bestowed by its Original Bestower, the One who ‘”makes the dead alive and calls into being things that were not” (Rm 4:17).The Resurrection therefore engenders not only faith in God as Father who is love, not only faith in Jesus and in His revelation of the Way of Eternal Life in the Gospels, but it also engenders hope. It permits a human being to now live in time in the atmosphere of Eternity, specifically, in the knowledge of the Father’s Love and Jesus’ Way of Nonviolent Love with a solid expectation that if these Gospel truths are chosen, the intractableness and relentlessness of the titanic iceberg of evil that haunts the human condition and is impervious to dissolution via “the best laid plans of mice and men,” will be dissolved in its visible and non-visible dimensions. The Resurrection of Jesus, then, is not mere resuscitation. It is a new life forever beyond the reach of evil and death. It is life indissolubly united with the Holy Life of “IAM who was before Abraham” and who said, “I am the Resurrection and the Life.” It is the ground for an entirely new perspective and understanding of what a human life is and is meant to be, what I should do and why I should do it and toward Whom I am headed.
