FAST FOOD: Thirty-First Helping
It was so obvious to the Jews from their reading of Scripture that God would protect the Messiah and make him victorious that when Jesus predicted his capture and death it just blew the minds of his disciples. A Savior who didn’t save was a contradiction in terms. He was just going to let himself be killed and love back. It didn’t make sense. It doesn’t make sense to us either, if we apply what Jesus is saying here to our own lives here and now. Jesus is saying that the Christian response to injustice, large or small—to insults, rejection, exploitation, sexual and physical abuse, robbery, rape, torture, murder or invasion—is to endure it and love back! “Anyone who wants to be associated with me must take up the cross and do as I do.”

God is pleased with nothing but love.
One act of pure love is more precious in the eyes of God
and of the soul, and more profitable to the Church,
than all the good works together,
though it may seem as nothing.”
– St. John of the Cross
