War is a hellish cesspool of depravity. What takes place in real time moment to moment in an actual battle in war, as opposed to the war that takes place only in the heads of just warist ecclesiastics and theologians, is an orgy of depravity, i.e., the mad, mutually intended, chaotic, mass maiming and slaughter of human beings. It is impossible to justify in the name of God, as God is revealed by Jesus, depravity as a moral means to an end. In other words depravity, whether individual depravity, collective depravity, state endorsed depravity, or institutional Church justified depravity is intrinsically and always grave evil (mortal sin) and therefore beyond justification, endorsement or approval by Jesus or by God as proclaimed by Jesus. That some or many members of the institutional Churches think that on occasion Jesus justifies entering into depravity or justifies fighting depravity with depravity is only evidence of chronic catastrophic mis-catechesis, not of truth as revealed by the words and deeds of Jesus in the Gospels. Christians and all human beings, who for any reason engage in the depravity of homicidal combat by land, sea or air in war, need our prayers and our help, not our applause and adulation. They need bandages and healing treatments for their hearts, minds, souls and bodies, not ribbons and honors that inflate their vanity for having entered into what they now know from first hand experience was depravity for God and country.
