FAST FOOD AD 2025: Seventh Helping
Liberal or conservative, socialist or monarchistic, government is violence and fear. Christianity is love. and nonviolence. Governments cannot be Christian, so a person who wishes to be a disciple of Jesus must not serve government.
Every Christian faces a choice: God or the state, Jesus’ teaching and example or state theory and practice. It is impossible at one and the same time to confess Jesus as one’s Lord, God and Savior, the foundation of whose teaching is Nonviolent Love of friends and enemies as the Way to resist evil, and yet consciously labour for violent kingdoms and their armies. Every single person inevitably must decide where he or she stands on this issue.
Perhaps Jesus teaching is obsolete, and when forced by the structure of a society to choose between the two—Christianity and merciful love towards all always or the state and merciless murder—Chritians in the Twenty-First Century will conclude that the existence of the state and its homicide apparatus is so much more important than Christianity that they must forego Christianity and retain what is more important: the State and its homicide operation..
But if that is the case, those who so choose should say so. They should openly admit to having chosen what they have chosen and not pretend they have been able to combine the two, because each of these alternatives directly repudiates the other. It is either Jesus and His Way of Nonviolent Love of friends and enemies, or the state and its way of merciless murder and violence. To choose one is to ipso facto to repudiate the other.
It does not require any faith in Jesus to know He is right when He says, “You cannot serve two diametrically opposed masters.” It takes a great deal of faith in something or someone other than Jesus to believe when you are serving the intrinsically violent Caesar you are serving the intrinsically Nonviolent Christ.
