FORTY-FIRST FORTY DAY FAST
FOR THE TRUTH OF GOSPEL NONVIOLENCE
JULY 1-AUGUST 9
FAST FOOD, Tenth Helping
Once we begin to kill for the sake of peace we have abandoned the goal of true peace, because we have subordinated love to some other value – prosperity, security, control – which belongs only to the time and space of this world.
In Christ we are children of God, therefore we are not obliged to ‘pay our dues” in military service to any government dedicated to defending the work of its hands by destroying the work of God’s hands.

“Nothing is better or more necessary than love.
God is pleased with nothing but love.
One act of pure love is more precious in the eyes of God
and of the soul, and more profitable to the Church,
than all the good works together,
though it may seem as nothing.”
– St. John of the Cross
