The Beatitudes Center Welcomes Rev. Charlie McCarthy, Feb. 14th, on the Nonviolent Jesus

January 31, 2026adminUncategorized

Dear friends, Christ’s blessings of peace!

I’m happy to invite you to join me as I welcome long time teacher of Christian nonviolence, Rev. Charlie McCarthy, to speak on the nonviolence of Jesus on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, February 14th. I consider him the finest teacher on Christian nonviolence in the world.

Last July, when he was my guest on “The Nonviolent Jesus Podcast,” (which you can go back and listen to, Episode #29), he said: “Nonviolence is nonviolent love of friends and enemies modeled by Jesus in the Gospels. Nonviolence asks, ‘Is the action that you are doing imbued with Christlike, nonviolent love?’ Any action without love is nothing at all. If our actions are not motivated by and imbued with Christlike love, they are not going to be effective in countering evil and death.” He always speaks in simple clear language that helps us get to the bottom of things.

Rev. Charles McCarthy is a priest of one of the Eastern Catholic Churches, Byzantine-Melkite, in communion with the Bishop of Rome. He has been a Catholic priest for forty years. He has Masters Degrees in English and in Theology from Notre Dame, and earned his Doctorate in Jurisprudence from Boston College Law School. He taught at the Univ. of Notre Dame where he founded and was the original Director of the Program for the Study and Practice of Nonviolent Conflict Resolution. He served for many years at St. Gregory the Theologian Byzantine-Melkite Catholic Seminary. For over fifty years he has directed retreats and spoken at conferences throughout the world on the nonviolent Jesus.

“I’ve never been able to get beyond the fact that when the will of God is known, what follows immediately is an imperative to live it, embrace it, and follow it,” Charlie says. “Jesus comes and reveals the will of the Father, which is to love as God loves, even under the most horrendous conditions, as he shows as he undergoes his death. Love your enemies is an authentic teaching of Jesus. That’s what he wants us to do. That’s nonviolence.” Join us!

To register, visit www.beatitudescenter.org.

The program will begin 11am Pacific/ 12pm Mountain/ 1pm Central/ 2pm Eastern time. You will receive the zoom link a few days beforehand, and a recording link afterwards. If you have questions, email Kassandra at
beatitudescentermb@gmail.com. Scholarships are available.

May the God of peace bless us all! See you then–Fr. John

About Us

The full embracing of Gospel Nonviolence calls for a radical alteration in thought patterns, verbal patterns, behavioral patterns, and emotional patterns. That is, it requires a completely different reality orientation and self-understanding.
